In a night where many expected some surprises, nobody could have predicted this.

The Toronto Raptors sent shockwaves throughout the NBA on Thursday night, after they opted to draft Brazilian small forward Bruno Caboclo with the 20th overall pick in the 2014 talent heavy draft. It was a decision no one in the basketball world expected.

The general consensus seems to be that Toronto feared another team was going to snatch him away before their second round pick at 37th overall. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, teams were quietly in the hunt for the Brazilian small forward, something Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri must have known beforehand.

Immediately following Toronto's pick, Twitter and social media alike was flooded with shock and surprise at who the Raptors had just chosen. Most of the reaction was heavily and critically negative. NBA analysts were also equally in awe, while none of them had much to say on the matter. Toronto was widely rumored to be in hot pursuit of fellow Canadian and Syracuse freshman Tyler Ennis, who was taken two picks ahead by the Phoenix Suns, 18th overall. Following that, the Denver Nuggets who acquired the 16th and 19th pick from the Chicago Bulls as part of the Doug McDermott trade, chose shooting guard Gary Harris who was another prospect the Raptors reportedly coveted.

Bruno Caboclo is regarded as having "immense" potential, but is raw in every aspect of the game. He's 18 years old and is listed at 6"9 with a wingspan of 7"4. Some have refered to and compared him to Kevin Durant, a pretty lofty comparison to say the least. To make matters slightly more complicated and baffling, his estimated time of arrival to the NBA is four years, with many using the expression "he's two years from being two years away." Caboclo's footage was also very difficult to find, as most websites barely had any. There was one in particular being shot by what looked like a cell phone.

It's all very surprising on a night where everyone expected the unexpected, however people believe it's safe to say no one in their right minds, even Canadians, expected this.
