They say that the only thing that remains the same is change. The two captains of the Solheim Cup apparently didn't get that memo.

Monday evening, Captain Juli Inkster selected Paula Creamer and Brittany Lang to join Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Michelle Wie, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Gerina Piller, Lizette Salas and Alison Lee. The team is the exact same team Meg Mallon took with her in 2013, with one exemption - the rookie Lee replaces Jessica Korda

Tuesday morning, Carin Koch made her four captain's picks and selected Karine Icher, Caroline Hedwall, Catriona Matthew and Caroline Masson. They will join Suzann Pettersen, Gwladys Nocera, Charley Hull, Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Azahara Munoz, Sandra Gal, and Carlota Ciganda. Gal, Nocera, and Reid are the only players who were not on the team in 2013, but all three have previous Solheim Cup experience, meaning American Alison Lee is the only player who has no previous Solheim Cup experience.

The head scratching pick is Inkster's choice of Creamer, who has only two top 10's in 2015 and is entering missing her last three cuts. Inkster defended her choice by saying Creamer is the best fit for the team, but she also talked to Creamer prior to the selection to make sure she was ready to go.

I wanted to know where she was at mentally and physically,” Inkster said. “I went with my gut. I really believe in her. The team believes in her. I think she’s earned the right to prove herself, and I wanted to give her a shot to do that.”

Koch has her own veteran that has not been playing well, as Hedwall has yet to notch a single top 10 finish this season. Hedwall, however, was the first player in Solheim Cup history to win five point in 2013, and her selection was seen as a no-brainer to many.

"We've got a great mixture of youth and experience which really excites me as captain," said Koch. "Each of our players has a role to play and I have a team of stars. Now the team is finalized we can all have full focus for the week in Germany."

Team Europe dominated the matches two years ago, winning 18-10 and defeating Team USA for the first time on American soil. This is, perhaps, the first time Team Europe enters the matches as the favorites, and Team USA will attempt to avoid a third straight defeat.

The Solheim Cup is considered to many as the "women's Ryder Cup", but there is still a flaw with the system, namely that there is no Presidents Cup equivalent on the LPGA Tour. Only four of the top 10 in the Rolex Rankings are playing in the Solheim Cup, and seven players will be coming in from outside the top 50, with one (Hedwall) ranked outside the top 100. Meanwhile, the greatest rivalry on the LPGA currently is Rolex Number One Inbee Park and Rolex Number Two Lydia Ko. Neither player has their own team event to compete in that receives as much attention as the Solheim Cup does. In fact, ten of the top 25 players in the world are from Korea, and all of them will be forced to take that week off as all the attention centers around players who have won a combined five LPGA tournaments in the past calender year.

To the LPGA Tour's credit, they have created the International Crown, which gives eight countries the opportunity to compete in a group team format, but the event is very new and does not receive nearly the amount of prestige as the Solheim Cup. The format is also completely different, as it is missing the exciting head to head competition that the Solheim Cup offers. If there was ever a time for a President Cup style event, where Team USA plays against players who were not previously eligible for the Solheim Cup, now would be the time.
