The second day of action of the RBC Heritage at the Harbour Town Golf Links saw three golfers take the lead going into the weekend. The tight leaderboard looks to challenge the players' nerves as the tournament continues to the later stages.

Chappel, Day, And Hoffman Co-lead At Six-under Par

Kevin Chappell mirrored his round one score with a 68, yet, again, in his second competitive round of golf this week. The UCLA alumni fired four birdies and one bogey en route to his back-to-back round of three-under par. The American started the front nine strong with a string of three birdies in a matter of four holes. Chappell looks to make a charge this weekend as he missed the cut in his last event. His putting and accuracy off the tee will work in his favor going into his Saturday round.

Jason Day put himself amongst the co-leaders after a significant day on the greens. The highlight of his round of 69 was his sunken 21 foot putt for birdie on hole number six. The Australian carded four birdies and two bogeys during his second round. If Day transfers his putting into the following two rounds, the trophy will be rightfully his as he is playing his prime golf at the moment.

Charley Hoffman rounds off the three co-leaders as he shot a streaky three-under par round. Hoffman’s finish on the back nine was rough, but bogeys at 15 and 18 did not stop him as he went on to play his next two holes at two-under par. Five birdies and two bogeys made up the up and down day for the American as he shot his second straight round of 68.

Golfers In The Close Chase

Luke Donald, who held the overnight lead after 18 holes, is among the golfers who are one shot back from the three co-leaders. Russell Knox and Patton Kizzire also sit at five-under par heading into Saturday. Luke Donald shot a disappointing even-par round after starting his tournament campaign on the right note. But, two birdies and a double-bogey did not cut it for the Brit to maintain as a co-leader. Russell Knox shot the lowest round of the tournament thus far with a six-under round of 65. Knox carded eight total birdies on day two. It was a good day at the office for Patton Kizzire, as well, as he followed his opening two-under round with a solid three-under round to join near the top of the leaderboard.

Round Two Surprises

Branden Grace and Tony Finau sequenced their first round with a poor, over-par round on Friday. Grace started his round off badly and the South African seemed to never rebound. Finau shot a disappointing two-over par round after a promising start to the RBC Heritage.

Zach Johnson and Billy Horschel headlined a list of players who improved their score majorly to put themselves somewhat back in the mix. Johnson struggled at two-over par after seven holes but quickly rebounded to finish with four birdies in his last seven holes. Horschel put himself into the red numbers as he put his previous round behind him to shoot a bogey-free 66. Also in contention is the newly professional, Bryson DeChambeau, who currently shares the 11th place position with nine other golfers.

Two Past Champions Miss Cut

Brandt Snedeker and Graeme McDowell were expected of a show-stopping performance as they headed to the Harbour Town Golf Links. But surprisingly, both players were unable to play their best golf as they failed to find their rhythm on a tricky golf course. Snedeker lacked any signs of consistency or tempo as he missed 21 greens in regulation throughout his first two rounds. Fellow past champion, Graeme McDowell, struggled off the tee which ultimately put him in an unwanted position to start each hole. A few well-known players to join the likes of Snedeker and McDowell are Paul Casey, Brendon de Jonge, and Thongchai Jaidee, who all will be leaving Hilton Head, South Carolina after poor play on the east coast.

Day Discusses His Exhaustion

Jason Day had a better day on the course on Friday, but he told the media that he has been feeling exhausted as of late. However, he was more optimistic about his round two performance of 69. Day expressed how he is wearied by his golf schedule.

"You can't chill out here (on tour) at all. Last week I felt like I had gone 10 rounds of a championship flight," the Australian told the media in Hilton Head.
