The final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson saw Sergio Garcia edge Brooks Koepka to lift the trophy. Day four consisted of mixed scores, most notably Jordan Spieth’s four-over par 74. The PGA TOUR event was concluded in enticing fashion as Garcia stole the title in a playoff hole.

Garcia shines in Irving

The Spaniard entered his fourth round at TPC Four Seasons Resort three shots back of Koepka. Garcia opened up his round with a birdie before bogeying his next hole. Garcia moved to the fourth hole at even-par of the day, and another bogey from the Spanish number one looked concerning. But Garcia followed his second bogey with a string of three birdies before closing out his front nine to move to two-under-par on the day. Garcia headed to the back nine with confidence after a promising start with his irons.

He gave one shot back on the tenth after missing a five-foot putt for par. But the Spaniard executed a birdie on the 13th and 16th holes. Despite bogeying the 14th hole, Garcia brilliantly closed out his tournament with a two-under par final round. He found himself in a tie for at the top of a dense leaderboard.

Spaniard steals victory on 73rd hole

This year’s AT&T Byron Nelson was pushed to the 73rd hole for a playoff between Garcia and the overnight leader, Koepka. The Spaniard just needed a par to oust Koepka after the American carded a disappointing double bogey to hand the win to Garcia. The 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson champion, Sergio Garcia, earned his ninth career PGA TOUR win. He is also expected to rise to 12th in the FedEx Cup standings thanks to his solid week in Texas.

Kuchar headlines top ten, Spieth struggles

Matt Kuchar finished in solo third four consecutive rounds in the 60s. Five Americans and one Australian left Irving, Texas in a tie for fourth at 13-under par. Closing out the top ten was a pair of Americans who finished at 12-under par. Spieth did not make the top ten, despite holding the second position before his final round began. But the world number two left his home tournament in a tie for 18th due to his streaky round of 74 on Sunday.
