Major League Baseball has fined Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell for his comments blasting baseball's new replay system.

Farrell complained that “It’s hard to have any faith in the system.”

Farrell's comments came after the Red Sox's weekend series against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in which replay missed a call on Saturday and overturned one on Sunday that went in favor of the Yankees.

In Saturday's game, Yankees Dean Anna was called safe at second after hitting a double.  Farrell challenged the safe call after he said he viewed video replay showing Anna had lifted his foot off of the bag while Red Sox's shortstop Xander Bogaerts was applying the tag.  Broadcasts of the game on television were showed their replays that backed Farrell's claim.  After review the umpires let the call stand.

In the fourth inning of Sunday's game, Yankees' Francisco Cervelli hit a ground ball to third baseman Ryan Roberts who threw to Johnathan Herrera at second, forcing out Kelly Johnson.  Herrera threw on to first and Cervelli was called out by umpire Bob Davidson.

Yankees' manager Joe Girardi came out of the dugout to challenge Davidson's call.  After consulting MLB's replay center, crew chief Brian O'Nora signaled that the call had been reversed. Farrell immediately came out from the visitors' dugout to argue the call and was ejected from the game.

MLB official Michael Teevan has since said the call on Saturday was wrong, because "the conclusive angle was not immediately available.”
