The Miami Marlins continued their great start to the season with another spectacular offensive performance at Marlins Park. In front of their fans, Miami hosted the Washington Nationals and the 11-2 final score was a fair reflection of what happened on the field.

And the brightest star of the game was no other than outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. The 24-year-old RF had a great day at the plate, going deep and finishing with five RBIs under his belt to lead Miami’s offense against Washington.

Stanton kicked things off with a huge three-run bomb into center during the first inning. An RBI single from Marcell Ozuna and a two-run RBI from Casey McGehee made it 6-0 for Miami after two but things didn’t stop there.

Miami exploded in the bottom of the fifth where they added five more runs. SP Tom Koehler added two runs with a sac bunt, Stanton produced two more with a two-run double and Garrett Jones scored Stanton with a single to right field. The Marlins had a healthy 11-run lead and they never looked back.

The Nationals added two runs late in the game but they didn’t change their fortune. Miami was simply dominant on offense and they pounded Washington early and often on their way to a huge win in front of their crowd.

As if it wasn’t enough, the Marlins were also stellar on the mound. Koehler pitched seven full innings on one-hit ball where he walked five and struck out three. Dan Jennings pitched the final two frames and while he allowed the Nats’ two runs, he struck out three to close things out for Miami.

The Marlins completed a great performance against a team that’s expected to compete in the NL East. Performances like this will surely boost their confidence as they continue to turn heads early this year.
