The Milwaukee Brewers looked like a real contender the first two weeks of the season. Sharp on both ends of the field, the team looked like a real threat to battle for the NL Central but it all went through the drain in the last two games as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated them again 6-1.

The Cardinals already defeated the Cardinals yesterday and now they gave them their second loss in as many games. Shelby Miller cruised his way on the mound for six innings but the real damage was made by the offense late in the game.

The Cardinals managed to score in three consecutive innings – second, third and fourth – to build an early lead at Miller Park. Yadier Molina scored on a ground out by Mark Ellis, Matt Carpenter added another run after an RBI double from Allen Craig and a sac fly from Ellis allowed Yadi to make it 3-0. Aramis Ramirez pulled one back for Milwaukee with a solo HR in the fourth but St. Louis never looked back.

The Cardinals cemented their lead with three runs in the top of the ninth thanks to a couple of long balls. A solo shot from Matt Holiday and a two-run bomb from Jhonny Peralta closed things out as the Cardinals dominated the Brewers completely thanks to some solid pitching and timely offense.

Both teams have plenty of work to do but there’s no doubt that the Cardinals are the top team in the NL Central this year. They have dominated competition with ease and they are now cruising their way against the hottest team in all of baseball these past two weeks.
