The Diamondbacks fan base has begun to show their frustration regarding the teams poor performance in the early going of the season, and deservedly so. The D-backs were swept by the New York Mets following a 5-2 loss in Wednesday afternoons matinee game. The sweep is the second consecutive for Arizona after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers the previous series. It also puts Arizona in a six game losing streak as well as a 4-14 record and a 1-11 record at home.

D-backs starter Brandon McCarthy didn't have a bad outing against the Mets pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five. The Mets scored first in the second inning when Anthony Recker hit a solo home run into the left field bleachers. A large factor in the D-backs struggles is that they have consistently been down early in ball games, unable to score early themselves. The Mets would tack on another run in the fourth coming from a Kirk Nieuwenheis RBI sacrifice fly. The Diamondbacks were being no hit until third basemen Martin Prado hit a two out double in the fifth inning.

The Mets would score another run in the sixth coming from a Dillon Gee RBI groundout, and two more in the ninth off Addison Reed. Eric Young Jr. lead off the inning by reaching on a throwing error by Reed that allowed him to advance to third. Daniel Murphy followed with a RBI single, and would then steal second to be driven by David Wright on a RBI single, putting New York up 5-0 going into the bottom of the ninth. Arizona avoided being shutout in consecutive games by getting back to back home runs to lead off the inning from Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt off former D-backs closer Jose Valverde. The D-backs would get nothing more than a Prado single with their final at bats.

The D-backs get a much needed day off Thursday to regroup mentally, to hopefully start a winning streak against the rival Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Wade Miley will look to get the win this time around, as he will face Dodgers starter Zack Greinke for the second time this season. Miley was rouged up for five runs his last time against the Dodgers, and three on opening day. Miley will look for his first win against L.A. this year. As for the Mets, they too get a day off Thursday and play the Atlanta Braves in Queens, New York on Friday. The pitching matchup will feature Aaron Harang for Atlanta and Jon Niese for the Mets.
