The New York Yankees received some good news on Thursday concerning their injury depleted infield.  First baseman Mark Teixeira could be back in the Yankees lineup as soon as Sunday night for the final game of the series against the Rays in Tampa Bay.

"Sunday is definitely a possibility," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Girardi said on Wednesday night that Teixeira took a full batting practice earlier in the day at the Yankees' complex in Tampa Bay, and also ran the bases.  He is scheduled to play three innings in a minor league game Thursday night.

Teixeira strained his right hamstring in the second inning of a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 4th.  Teixeira chased a foul ball hit by Melky Cabrera when he pulled up clutching his hamstring.  Kelly Johnson has been playing at first base in place of Teixeira.

Closer Update:

Yankees closer David Robertson, placed on the disabled list April 7th with a groin strain, says he is confident he will be ready to go on Tuesday.  The Yankees open a series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
