After suffering a 3-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox yesterday's series opener, the Detroit Tigers fired back with an 8-6 win that got a little too close for comfort.

The huge chunk of scoring for the Tigers started in third inning when they were able to score five runnings when second baseman Ian Kinsler got things started with a two run double that was able to break a 1-1 tie. With Kinsler standing on second, a struggling Miguel Cabrera came to the plate looking to add to the lead; he did just that. Cabrera smacked a two run homer to right field to give the Tigers two more runs stretching the lead to four. Later in the inning, Nick Castellanos was able to add another run with a sacrifice fly to bring Victor Martinez home to add some breathing room at 6-1 for Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander.

That was all he needed. Verlander pitched seven strong innings with seven strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs over that span. However, he probably should've stayed in a little longer.

After leaving with a solid 8-2 lead, Verlander could only look on as the bullpen that still continues to struggle allowed a combined four runs in just two innings, three of them allowed by relief pitcher Phil Coke.

After Coke gave up a two run homer to designated hitter Adam Dunn that trimmed the lead down to two, pitcher Joba Chamberlain came in to record the save and get the eventual final out to seal the win for the Tigers.
