The San Francisco Giants began a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park tonight, and the big story line entering the game was Cliff Lee's return from injury. Lee was opposed on the mound by Ryan Vogelsong in a game that would turn into a hit fest from the get go.

In the top of the second inning, Pablo Sandoval got things going for the Giants with a single to shallow left, followed by a single to right from Michael Morse. Gregor Blanco singled to right with two outs after a Cliff Lee wild pitch, driving in Sandoval to give the Giants an early 1-0 lead. The Phillies would counter in their half of the second as Jimmy Rollins singled to shallow left bringing home Cody Asche and Cameron Rupp to put the Phillies on top 2-1.

When the Giants came up to start the third, they continued to get their fare share of hits off of Lee. Following back-to-back singles to lead off the inning from Ryan Vogelsong and Hunter Pence, a Buster Posey single after a Marco Scutaro sacrifice added two more runs to the Giants' total, as Vogelsong and Pence came around to score. The Phillies got two runs back in the fourth when Ryan Howard singled home the rejuvenated Grady Sizemore along with Jimmy Rollins to give the Phillies a 4-3 advantage.

Cliff Lee got knocked out of the ball game in the top of the sixth when Adam Duvall hit a two-run homer to center, scoring Michael Morse, and Hunter Pence drove in Joaquin Arias with a base knock. Lee exited the game surrendering six earned runs on 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched. After taking a 6-4 lead in the sixth, San Francisco never looked back as their bullpen held the Phillies scoreless for the remainder of the game. A Hunter Pence triple that scored Gregor Blanco in the top eighth would give the Giants an ensurance run they would not need, as San Francisco went on to win 7-4.

George Kontos picked up the win for the Giants and Santiago Casilla shut the door for the save with Cliff Lee picking up the loss in his return. Both teams combined for 29 hits and 11 runs, but the Giants were able to do more with their 15 hits, as they bunched them together to score their seven runs.

Tomorrow night Yusmeiro Petit takes the hill for the Giants and Roberto Hernandez will get the start for the Phillies.
