Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin was suspended 25 games by Major League Baseball on Wednesday afternoon for testing positive for amphetamines. The suspension is just another negative headline in what has been a difficult season for the Padres organization.

In a statement released by Maybin, he explained that he had a Therapeutic Use Exemption to use Adderall, a drug that he was legally prescribed to treat his Attention Deficit Disorder. He made the decision to change to a different drug, but neglected to inform the commissioner's office. Maybin does not plan to fight the suspension and started to serve his punishment Wednesday night.

Maybin has had a rough few years for San Diego. He missed most of last year and the start of this year due to injuries. Currently Maybin is hitting .247/.286/.368 with a homer.  The suspension is enforced because this is the second time Maybin has tested positive for amphetamines.

San Diego purchased the contract of Jeff Francoeur from AAA El Paso to take Maybin's spot on the roster. Chris Denorfia started for the Padres in center Wednesday night.
