Clayton Kershaw continues to show why he is the best pitcher in major league baseball, throwing a complete game shutout against the Giants in a 5-0 win. Kershaw threw 113 pitches in his third career shutout at AT&T Park and his fourth complete game of the 2014 season. Kershaw improved to 12-2, giving up two hits and striking out seven. Kershaw walked one batter, showcasing his dominant control and poise again.

Kershaw now holds an ERA of 1.76, which gives him the lowest ERA in the majors. Kershaw has 141 strikeouts in his 112.1 innings pitched this season. A combination of the fastball, curveball, and slider had the Giants batters guessing all night long.

Kershaw allowed four runs the entire month of June and has allowed only four runs the entire month of July. Los Angeles has won the last 10 times Kershaw started. Kershaw’s dominance of San Francisco has been monumental throughout his career. The 1.40 ERA held by Kershaw against the Giants is the lowest career ERA - any single opponent in a minimum of 20 career starts in the last 100 seasons. Kershaw holds an ERA of 0.69 at AT&T Park for his career.

The Dodgers began the scoring in the fourth inning when a single from Hanley Ramirez drove in Adrian Gonzalez. Ramirez finished the evening 2-4 with an RBI. Carl Crawford led off the fifth inning with a single, and moved to second on a line drive to center field from Matt Kemp. Juan Uribe drove in Crawford on a single to left field for the 2-0 lead in the fifth. Crawford drove in Puig in the sixth, and Uribe came through again with a double to drive in Crawford. Uribe recorded two hits in his four plate appearances, driving in two. Adrian Gonzalez capped off the scoring in the seventh with a single that drove in Dee Gordon. Gonzalez put together a 3-5 night at the plate with the lone RBI.

The Dodgers took the first two games of the three game set with the Giants, regaining first place in the NL West by a half game. The series closes out on Sunday with Hyun-Jin Ryu facing off against the newly acquired Jake Peavy from Boston.
