The Arizona Diamondbacks went into Sunday's game with a worn out bullpen and a dire need of a deep start from Vidal Nuno. Nuno gave them the innings but the Diamondbacks didn't get the results they would have liked in the 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The Phillies cashed in on crucial D-backs errors that led to two of their four runs.
The Phillies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after the struggling Ryan Howard hit a two run homer to deep left-center field off Nuno. The D-backs answered right back with a run in the second on a Nick Ahmed RBI double off of Phillies starter Roberto Hernandez.
Both starters settled down until the sixth inning when both teams scored. Paul Goldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the top half and the Phillies took the lead as Ryan Howard scored after a fielding error by Didi Gregorious. Shaky defense would hinder Nuno and the Diamondbacks again in the seventh inning on another error, this time on a missed catch by Miguel Montero that allowed Wil Nieves to score.
The D-backs turn their attention to their series against the struggling Cincinnati Reds beginning today, with Chase Anderson taking the mound against Homer Bailey.
