The San Diego Padres made several roster moves on Sunday evening that included placing left fielder Carlos Quentin on the disabled list with soreness in his left knee. The Padres will activate second baseman Jedd Gyorko to take his place on the active roster. Quentin appeared in Saturday's game as a pinch-hitter.

2014 has been a rough year for the Padres slugger, as he has struggled with a series of injuries, and is in the midst of his worst season as a big leaguer. Quentin has hit just .177 in 155 plate appearances. His .315 slugging percentage is also a career-low.

Gyorko has been on the disabled list since June 6th when he was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Before the injury, Gyorko was enduring a miserable season as evidenced by a .162 average. In a rehab assignment with the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas, Gyorko hit .292 with a homer in 24 at-bats.

San Diego also announced that Ian Kennedy will miss his scheduled start on Monday with a oblique strain. The team will purchase the contract of Jason Lane, 37, to make his first Major League start against Atlanta after appearing in two games earlier in the season as a reliever.  Kennedy, who is a trade candidate, is expected to avoid the disabled list.

The Padres cleared a roster space by sending infielder Brooks Conrad to Triple-A El Paso. Conrad, 34, hit just .100 in 30 plate appearances for San Diego.
