The Miami Marlins were in most of the trade rumors today, as they started with Jon Lester, but he ultimately ended up in Oakland. The next target was John Lackey, which he was traded to St. Louis. The Marlins needed a starting pitcher no matter what in order to bolster this ball club and get ready for that playoff run that could launch the franchise to new heights.

A few minutes before the trade deadline ended, the Miami Marlins acquired hard throwing Jarred Cosart, INF Enrique Hernandez, and OF Austin Waters for OF Jake Marisnick, 3B Colin Moran, and a competitive balance round draft pick from the Houston Astros

Cosart is a solid addition to the Marlins young starting pitching staff. He fits some great criteria points to have which is hard thrower, throws strikes, and he's young (only 24 years of age). Cosart is 9-7 with a 4.47 ERA this season for the Astros.

Enrique "Keke" Hernandez is a solid MLB player and he is solid utility player. He can play everywhere on the field. Hernandez is batting .284 BA, with a .348 OBP, which is outstanding for a young rookie only playing in 24 games this season. Marlins manager Mike Redmond will certainly love Hernandez just because of his versatility on the field.

Austin Wates is a triple A prospect who as well can make an impact in the future. Wates is the last piece of the deal. Currently he is in Triple A and he is batting .299 BA, with a .396 OBP. Certainly Wates is a good asset to have for the future plans of the Marlins.

Overall we like this trade for the Marlins, as you get two proven players that will currently impact your team while contending for a playoff race, and some brilliant added bonuses. The Marlins were serious and they want to compete. This deal certainly says they are in the mix for the playoff race this year.
