The New York Yankees have placed catcher Brian McCann on the seven-day disbled list due to a concussion. McCann was hit in the face mask by a foul tip in Friday night's 10-6 win over the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have called up catcher Austin Romine from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

McCann initially stayed in the game but was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the sixth inning by Fransisco Cervelli. Cervelli remained in the rest of the game as the Yankees catcher. Joe Girardi said after a conversation with McCann he felt he needed to come out of the game.

"He said it was his jaw," Girardi said. "He felt like his jaw got jammed. And then in talking to him later when he came in, in the sixth, he said he felt a little foggy. He was having a hard time putting words to it, so I helped him. I said, 'You're out,' He didn't want to come out, but I said, 'You're out."

McCann finished 1-for-2 with a walk on Friday. In his first year with the Yankees, McCann is batting .238 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 103 games. McCann will be evaluated again on Saturday.

"I'm not sure what this means right now," Girardi said. "We've got to go talk about it obvisouly. We'll probably have to make a decision about something."
