Clayton Kershaw entered the game 1-5 with a 5.24 ERA in his last six starts in Arizona. That wasn’t the case in his start on Wednesday. Kershaw was dominant all night long, working around a lead-off walk in the first, keeping the Arizona Diamondbacks scoreless. Kershaw worked out of a bases loaded jam in the third to continue to keep a shutout.

A weak pop out to second was the second out, and a fly ball to left field ended the bottom of the inning. Kershaw finally surrendered one in the fourth. Yasiel Puig came up short on a dive on a fly ball to center field. Scott Van Slyke fielded the ball and turned his ankle, leaving the game with the injury and was replaced by Carl Crawford.

On his 109th pitch, Kershaw recorded his 10th strikeout. That’s now 10-plus strikeouts for three straight games for the first time in three years. Kershaw gave up six hits and one run in his eight innings of work. Kershaw’s league leading ERA is now at an impressive 1.73.

The Los Angeles Dodgers ace improves to a 16-3 record, becoming the first 16-game winner in the major leagues this season. Kenley Jansen entered the game in the ninth inning to close out the 3-1 win, capturing save number 38. Jansen struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The Dodgers offense got behind Kershaw early with a lead-off bunt single from Dee Gordon and a walk from Puig. Matt Kemp followed with a two run double. Kemp was thrown out at third after trying to stretch it to a triple. Van Slyke added one more with a solo home run to center field for the 3-0 lead.

The scoring was done after the bats mustered out three runs, and that was enough with the dominant left ace on the mound. Turner and A.J. Ellis both went 2-3 from the plate with a walk. Crawford recorded a hit in the sixth after replacing Van Slyke in left field. Los Angeles recorded eight hits total in the win.

The Dodgers sweep the Diamondbacks in the short two-game series at Chase Field in Arizona. The 76-58 Dodgers have Thursday off before beginning a three game series with the Padres in San Diego. Dan Haren will be the starter in game one
