The New York Yankees are very well looking like they will miss the postseason for a second consecutive season. This off-season, the Yankees will need to make some changes. From what Nick Carfado of the Boston Globe has heard, the Yankees will make an attempt at signing Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nelson Cruz this winter.

Carfado noted for the Boston Globe that:

Cruz did his one-year pillow contract and now riches seem to await. The Orioles will make him the $15 million-plus qualifying offer, but Cruz, as one of the few righthanded power hitters on the market, will be in demand. The Yankees will bid. Cruz also loved playing in Texas, and the Rangers need righthanded power.

Nelson Cruz is having a magnificent season after signing a one-year, $8 million contract with Baltimore after the 2013 season. He didn't get a big contract due to the fact he was just coming off a suspension while he was with the Texas Rangers during the 2013 season for his involvement in the Anthony Boesch' Biogenesis scandal.

During the 2014 campaign, the 34-year-old outfielder has hit .266/.333/.525 with 39 home runs, 103 runs batted in,  heading into Tuesday. Because of this big season, Cruz's price tag this offseason will skyrocket way up, which means that it is going to take way more to land him as a costless agent this winter than it did last offseason.

The problem that arises for the Yankees is the length of the deal that Cruz will ultimately be in search of. Already 34-years-old, 35 in July of 2015, Nelson Cruz wanting to receive a multi-year deal could be less attractive to a Yankees team that is already filled up with a bunch of big salary, aging, non-productive players.
