7:40 P.M. EST: Detroit Tigers' catcher Alex Avila remains out of action due to disorientation. He has had a lot of trouble focusing during workouts.

7:35 P.M. EST: We will be brining pre-game info now to get ready for the first pitch.

7:16 P.M. EST: The Royals are 59-44 in night games and 79-65 on grass fields. Their current streak is one win and they are 4-6 in their last 10 games. The Tigers are 55-40 during night games and 81-65 on grass fields. Their current streak is a loss of two and they are 7-3 in their last 10 games.

7:15 P.M. EST: The National League Divison Leaders are the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Nationals. The Wild Card spots are pbtained by the Giants and Pirates. The only real threat are the Brewers who are three and a half back.

7:14 P.M. EST: Currently the American League Divison Leaders are the Orioles, Tigers, and Angels. The Wild Card spots are obtained by the Royals and the Athletics. The teams that threaten are the Mariners, and the Indians.

7:13 P.M. EST: The Royals are a half game back in the AL Central. They are 83-68 with a .550 win percentage. They have a 41-36 home record. As far as the Wild Card goes, the Royals have the first spot by a half game. The Indians are four games back in the Wild Card and may be able to make a late run and make the playoffs.

7:12 P.M. EST: The Tigers are 84-68 with a .553 win percentage. They are leading the AL Central and have a solid away record, 43-35. 

7:11 P.M. EST: Cabrera has continued to heat up. He is hitting .469 with six long balls and 12 RBI's this month. 

7:10 P.M. EST: The last time Vargas took on the Tigers he was shelled for five runs over 5.1 innings. He will obviously look to change that has he starts at home today. Rajai Davis and Ian Kinsler are a combined 10 for 23 with two homers and three doubles against Vargas this year. Cabrera has doubled twice in nine at-bats.

7:09 P.M. EST: "Right now, Nori's gotten hot, and we needed that, we needed some guys getting hot, creating some scoring opportunities," manager Ned Yost said. "We need to mix in a few more guys to get hot like him and we'll be in great shape."

7:08 P.M. EST: Royals' Nori Aoki went 11 for 13 in the last series. That set a team record for most hits in a three-game series.

7:07 P.M. EST: "What we've got to do is keep playing the game the way we know how to play, control what we can control, go out there and prepare (ourselves) and have good at-bats and play good defense and make good pitches," Torii Hunter said. "(If) we do that, I think we'll be fine."

7:06 P.M. EST: The Tigers are on the verge of losing three straight games, which has not happened since the end of August. Miguel Cabrera has stayed hot with four hits and an RBI last night.

7:05 P.M. EST: "That's a big series, for the whole year," Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar said. "The team is going really good right now. Detroit, everybody knows, is good. Coming in here, it's exciting, playing at home. It's going to be a great series."

7:04 P.M. EST: "Nothing needs to be said. There's not a person in this clubhouse that doesn't understand the importance of this series," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "This is fun. There should be a lot of energy -- a lot more energy in the stands on the Royals side."

7:03 P.M. EST: Vargas is 11-9 with a 3.41 ERA. His last appearence was against the Boston Red Sox. He tossed 5.1 innings and gave up five earned runs in the loss. Verlander is 13-12 with a 4.81 ERA. His last game was against the Cleveland Indians. He threw 5.2 innings and gave up three earned runs.
