A pitcher getting shut down always seems like bad news but really this time it isn't bad news for New York Mets hurler Jacob deGrom. deGrom has had a surprising season on the mound for the struggling Mets. He has been one of the very few bright spots in the Mets organization to look forward to in the future.

This season deGrom is 9-6 with a 2. 63 ERA along with 144 strikeouts in just over 140 innings. Those numbers will most likely win deGrom his very first piece of hardware. deGrom has strengthen his grasp on the NL ROY Honors over Cincinnatti Reds speedster Billy Hamilton.

Hamilton burst on to the season a little quicker than deGrom but deGrom's consistency made him the favorite. There has a been a little talk among sabermetrics followers that Hamiltion has impacted his team more but on the flip side of that the non-sabermetric guys like most writers here at VAVEL believe that deGrom deserves it because there's really no weak spot in his season.

Sure he was on a struggling team, but hey what can you really do about that when you're a pitcher. You can't pitch and drive in runs too, well sometimes but that's a whole other discussion.

Whichever way you side, deGrom being shut down is almost like the Mets saying they believe he's won and they actually might be right about something for a change.
