7:50 PM EST: Royals lineup: 1. Alcides Escobar (SS), 2. Nori Aoki (RF), 3. Lorenzo Cain (CF), 4. Eric Hosmer (1B), 5. Billy Butler (DH), 6. Alex Gordon (LF), 7. Salvador Perez (C), 8. Omar Infante (2B), 9. Mike Moustakas (3B).

7:45 PM EST:Giants lineup: 1. Gregor Blanco (CF), 2. Joe Panik (2B), 3. Buster Posey (C), 4. Pablo Sandoval (3B), 5. Hunter Pence (RF), 6. Brandon Belt (1B), 7. Michael Morse (DH), 8. Travis Ishikawa (LF), 9. Brandon Crawford (SS).

7:40 PM EST: Less than 30 minutes from first pitch in Game 2 of the 2014 World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals!!!

5:45 PM EST: This seems to be a must win for the Royals considering they go to San Francisco for three games and they don’t want to be down 0-2. But they seem to be relaxed and ready for the challenge. Ned Yost said last night “We didn’t expect to come in here and sweep the San Francisco Giants,” so if they have that mindset and don’t play with the pressure of going down 0-2 they should be fine tonight in Game 2.

5:45 PM EST: Everyone has been raving about the Royals bullpen, as they should, but the Giants have surprisingly been the better bullpen this postseason. They have a bullpen ERA of 1.69 and in their last four games they have recorded 12 2/3 scoreless innings. So the Royals need to continue their dominance against Peavy because there is no guarantee against the Giants bullpen.

5:44 PM EST: Billy Butler, Alcides Escobar, and Alex Gordon have the most success against Giants starter Jake Peavy. Butler is 14-for-33 (.424 AVG.) with 3 HRs and 8 RBIs, Escobar is 9-for-22 (.409 AVG) with 2 HRs and 8 RBIs, and Gordon is 10-for-28 (.357 AVG) with 1 HR and 5 RBIs. The Royals need to get off to a good start tonight and the fact these guys hit towards the top of the lineup means good news for their chances to do so.

5:43 PM EST: The rookie Yordano Ventura has never faced the Giants in his career. In his three postseason appearances, two starts, Ventura holds a 4.85 ERA without factoring in a decision. Ventura is known for his lack of command at times and that has been on display a couple times thus far in the postseason. However, he has also shown how electric and dominant he can be when he went seven innings allowing only one run against the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS. If Ventura can command and locate his fastball that can max out at 100 MPH, the Giants could have trouble tonight in Game 2.

5:42 PM EST: Jake Peavy hasn’t been good or bad in the postseason. The 33-year old may be 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in his two starts but he’s only pitched 9 2/3 innings so he hasn’t gone deep into games. It may be a similar story tonight as Peavy has struggled against the Royals in his career. In 14 career starts against Kansas City Peavy is 5-7 with a 4.97 ERA. Now when he pitches in Kauffman Stadium he’s even worse going 1-5 with a 6.42 ERA.

5:41 PM EST:The San Francisco Giants will send RHP Jake Peavy (7-13, 3.73 ERA) to the mound trying to gain a 2-0 advantage in the series heading back to San Fran. The Kansas City Royals will send rookie RHP Yordano Ventura (14-10, 3.20 ERA) to the bump trying to even the series and avoid putting themselves in a “giant” hole heading to the West Coast.
