The Philadelphia Phillies extended Grady Sizemore to a one-year deal on Thursday afternoon. The contract is for the 2015 season and is worth $2 million, is could be upwards of $5 million total with incentives based on performance, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.

Sizemore is 32 years old, he returned to the Major Leagues last year with the Boston Red Sox after being out of the game for two years because of injuries. Sizemore struggled mightily with Boston and was designated for assignment after posting a slash line of .216/.288/.324.

The Phillies picked him up in the summer and Sizemore had better success. In 176 plates appearances Sizemore posted a slash line of .253/.313/.389. The former center fielder played the corner outfield most of the time for Philadelphia which worked out for the best.

Philadelphia has been busy in recent days making small moves. Earlier this week the Phillies extended right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams to a one-year extension. They also avoided arbitration with left-hander Cesar Jimenez to a one-year, $600K deal. Jimenez is 29 years old and had his best season as a professional. In 16 IP he supported a 1.69 ERA.

The Phillies continue their theme of keeping veteran players throughout the roster. Eventually they will have to infuse some young talent. In the mean time they will surround this roster with serviceable veterans.
