Game Start

The Royals will need to get on it early in this game. In San Francisco Giants - Kansas City Royals World Series Game 6, they jumped on Peavy early and got runs on the board and really took the Giants out of the game. If they want to do the same they'll need to swing early, tag some hits together, and tack on some runs in the first 3-4 innings. They also need to steal bases. They haven't been able to be effective stealing in this World Series but they're always a threat to steal a bag or two.

5:17 PM EST: "It's exciting," Bochy said. "It is. I mean, we're going into the seventh game. Good for baseball. You've got San Francisco Giants - Kansas City Royals going at it, and it wasn't pretty tonight, but the best thing, we do get to wash this off and play tomorrow."

The Giants hitting has to come alive if they want to pull this game out. Hunter Pence has hit phenomenal and at one point in San Francisco Giants - Kansas City Royals Game 6, he had a .500 on the dot batting average. Something to note is Buster Posey hasn't had an extra base hit in this world series or most of the playoffs. Posey needs to be a force because you can't have your number 3 hitter hitting just singles as your hits. He needs to work the long ball or into a gap. Easier said than done.

Hudson also pitched very well, pitching over 5 innings and the Giants pulled him for their bullpen as well. Both teams will be keeping a short leash tonight and for the Giants, since Hudson isn't necessarily a strikeout pitcher, they'll want to give it to their bullpen guys who can really put a beating onto the Royals. The problem with pitchers for the Giants like Peavy, Vogelsong, and Hudson is they usually pitch for contact. When in a jam, it gets a bit risky when trying to pitch for contact because you need someone to really get strikeouts that don't risk putting the ball in play and giving up runs. That's one of the many reasons why Bumgarner is so good is because he can work his way out of jams through the strikeout.

For the Royals, Guthrie will be on the mound. In his last appearance he pitched 5 innings only giving up 2 hits. He could've gone farther but the Royals went to their bullpen to finish off that game. "My margin for error is going to be minimal either way," he said. "My goal is always to put up as many zeros as I can."

This writer thinks that this San Francisco Giants - Kansas City Royals game 7 won't be like the other games of the series. Look for a close game, possibly 4-5 runs each for whoever wins it. This game is going to be one for the books.

World Series Factoid: According to ESPN Stats & Information, "Bruce Bochy is looking for his 3rd World Series title in 5 seasons, something only 4 managers have ever accomplished. All 4 of them are in the Hall of Fame and 3 of them did it for the Yankees. The only one who didn't do it with the Yankees is Connie Mack, who did it with the Philadelphia Athletics more than 100 years ago."

Giants - Royals Game 7 is now upon us. One of these teams will make history tonight. If the Giants pull out the win, they'll have won 3 World Series' in the last 5 years. If the Royals win, it will be there first championship in over 20 years.

"Hey, it happens. They put the ball in play, and they did a good job of that. The best thing about this game is we get to wash it off. It didn't go our way. The big inning killed us. I don't have to tell you guys."

"I thought he had pretty good stuff tonight," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy about Peavy. "I did. I know the numbers don't indicate that. If he had a little luck, he probably gets out of that inning. They just hit the ball where we couldn't get to it. But I thought his stuff was crisper, his velocity. They just made contact. And he's had a tough time against this club. But I thought when he started the game, I could see a difference in his stuff."

Giants - Royals Game 6, which happened last night, was all Royals from the very beginning. Jake Peavy was on a short leash heading into game 6 and it wasn't long before he was subbed out for Petit. Peavy lasted just 1 1/3 innings pitched. Petit came in relief with the bases loaded and 1 out and gave up a single by Cain that would score 2 runs and then 2 straight doubles by Hosmer and Butler to put the score to 7-0. The Royals never looked back from there eventually winning 10-0.

Madison Bumgarner went on the mound to start Game 5, and wouldn't leave. Bumgarner pitched a complete game shutout. Bumgarner looked so dominant that it caused fans to wonder if he'd come in from the bullpen in game 6 or possibly even start two days later in game 7.

The Giants scored 10 unanswered runs in Game 4 and used their bullpen, specifically Yusmeiro Petit who pitched 3 scoreless runs after Ryan Vogelsong only ptiched 2 2/3's innings putting the Giants behind 4-1. After those 4 runs, the Royals would fail to score again and the Giants would finish out game 4 to tie the World Series at 2 games apiece.

The Royals would continue to dominate in Game 3. Guthrie matched up against Hudson at AT&T Park, where the Giants were on a 6 game win streak in the World Series. The Royals used their bullpen in Game 3, left-hander Brandon Finnegan came in with one out in the seventh inning to close out that and send it to the 8th. Setup man Wade Davis recorded an easy 3 up, 3 down inning, and then Royals closer Greg Holland recorded a  1-2-3 inning to end game three  3-2 and give the Royals a 2-1 advantage in the World Series.

Giants - Royals Game 2 was the exact opposite of game 1. The Royals went up 2-1 after an Escobar double scoring Infante. Belt came back with a double of his own scoring Sandoval to tie it at 2 in the 4th. The Royals would open up this game in the bottom of the 6th. Strickland relieved Lopez when the score was 3-2 in the Royals favor, and would eventually give up a double by Perez that scored 2, and a home run by Infante that added another 2 runs. The Royals would stop their scoring in the 6th at 7 and would finish game 2 winning 7-2.

Madison Bumgarner started off the game 1 MLB World Series against fellow ace James Shields. Bumgarner silenced all critics of the Giants going 7 innings, striking out 5 hitters, and giving and allowing only 1 run on 3 hits. Bumgarner's run given up snapped a 21 inning World Series scoreless streak he was on. San Francisco dominated in Kansas City with a 7-1 blowout for game number 1.

Before we get into a preview of Giants - Royals Game 7, let's take a look at how games 1 through 6 played out.

The San Fracisco Giants - Kansas City Royals face off tonight at 8:07 PM EST to compete for the World Series Championship. With the series tied 3-3, the winner of game 7 will finally take home the prize.
