Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Pedro Strop was involved in a car accident on Thursday night in the Dominican Republic, according to El Nuevo diario

Police say that Strop lost control of his car while driving, and crashed into the estate of deceased Major Leaguer Jose Uribe. According to media reports, Strop and his passenger were transported to a local hospital, and are in stable condition.

The accident happened in the province of San Cristobal, on the Sabana Grande de Palenque-Juan Barón highway. At this time, there is no active police investigation, according to El Nuevo Diario, because the local police have not reported the accident.

No word has been released on a potential cause of the crash, which comes just a month after a crash took the life of St. Louis Cardinal Oscar Taveras.

While there have not been a lot of details about the crash or his status released, David Kaplan reports that Strop is likely going to be okay.

Strop went 2-4, with a 2.21 ERA this season for the Cubs, in 61 innings pitched. Strop is looking to get an expanded role under new Cubs manager Joe Maddon.
