The Washington Post's James Wagner reported in a column on November 26th that he has gotten word from a knowledgeable source about the situation, that 6'5 RHP Ross Detwiler's camp has suggested that the Nationals look to trade him if possible.

This past season Ross Detwiler has competed for a spot in the back of the rotation where he had shown the ability to be a solid starting pitcher in both 2012 and 2013 when not injured. Detwiler wasn't able to win that spot and was thrown to the bullpen where he would have a very average season. He would post a 4.00 ERA in 47 games with a terrible K/9 ratio while basically mopping up games and pitching in non-pressure situations. He is arbitration eligible for the third time in his career meaning that after this season he'll be a costless agent. MLB Trade Rumors projected that Detwiler would earn about 3.3 million for this season but even before these rumors there had been talk he could be non-tendered.

It seems like no matter what happens this offseason Detwiler will no longer be in a Nat's uniform. Many teams are looking for back of the rotation guys and Detwiler has shown the ability to be able to handle that role to some degree. If a trade were to take place the Nat's wouldn't likely get anything special back in return, maybe a prospect who struggled this past year but is a solid bounce back candidate at best.

If a trade doesn't come together he'll likely be non-tendered because the role he fulfilled in 2014 could be filled by much cheaper options. In most cases when news comes out a player is unhappy a move usually follows quite quickly. It would be smart to keep your eyes out because it could take place at anytime and easily slip under these big headlines talking about the Josh Donaldson trade and Jon Lester contract. These guys who don't grab the headlines but leave a team and get put in the right situation could push that team over the hump.
