The New York Mets have non-tendered outfielder Eric Young Jr, making him a costless agent. Young was projected to earn $2.25 million in 2015.

Young is the only one of seven arbitration eligible Mets that has not been tendered a contract. Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, Jenrry Mejia, Daniel Murphy, Bobby Parnell and Ruben Tejada were all offered contracts by the Mets.

Young, 29, was acquired by New York in 2013 from the Rockies for Colin McHugh. The speedy outfielder played almost everyday for the Mets in 2013 after being traded, appearing in 91 games. In 2014, he lost his role with the emergence of Juan Lagares, the signing of Curtis Granderson and the Mets giving Matt den Dekker and Kirk Nieuwenhuis opportunities. Young ended up being a late-inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. In 2015, the Mets expect Kirk Nieuwenhus to have one of the bench spots, along with Eric Campbell. New York may look to acquire another right-handed outfield bat for the bench.

Young hit only .229, with one home run, 17 RBIs, and 48 runs. The New Jersey-native did steal 30 bases in his 2014 campaign.
