The San Diego Padres have released five pitchers who played in the Padres organization in 2014. The pitchers are Max Beatty, Coby Cowgill, Cory Bostjancic, Erik Cabrera, and Josh Richardson. The news was reported by Matt Eddy of Baseball America.

Beatty, 23, was the Padres' 32nd-round pick in 2013 out of Pacific Lutheran University in Washington State. Beatty spent the 2014 season pitching for short-season Eugene in the Northwest League. He went 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 18 games (1 start). He has never pitched above short-season ball in his professional career. He has a 4.87 ERA in 39 career innings.

Cowgill, 23, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 23rd round of the 2012 draft. He was signed by the Padres prior to last season. He spent last season with Low-A Fort Wayne and High-A Lake Elsinore, struggling at both levels. In 2014, Cowgill posted a 5-4 record with an unsightly ERA of 6.90 in 22 games (14 starts). He has a 4.72 ERA in 63 professional appearances, never pitching above Single-A.

Bostjancic, 22, was the Padres' 15th-round pick in 2012 out of the College of Marin in California. Bostjancic pitched for short-season Eugene and for Fort Wayne. He struggled mightily as he posted a 12.44 ERA in 29 innings between the two levels. For his career, Bostjancic has a 10.53 ERA in 46 career outings.

Cabrera, 24, was signed as a free agent in 2011 out of the Dominican Republic. Cabrera spent 2014 pitching for the Low-A Fort Wayne Tincaps, where he posted a 5.17 ERA in 36 games (9 starts). He has never pitched above Single-A. For his career, he has a 4.67 ERA in 95 professional appearances.

Richardson, 23, was the Padres' 26th-round pick in the 2013 draft out of Liberty University. He pitched between Low-A Fort Wayne and High-A Lake Elsinore in 2014. Between the two levels, he pitched to a 6.85 ERA in 27 appearances.

While none of the players were considered prospects, they all have been professionals for a few seasons. Hopefully, they get the opportunity to pitch elsewhere in 2015.
