The Washington Nationals starting RF Jayson Werth has speed, not only on the base paths with his 123 career stolen bases, but also behind the wheel of his Porche GT3 RS where he seemed to find a stretch of freeway near Washington D.C. that was traffic-free enough to get up to 105 MPH.  The problem is, the speed limit was 55 MPH.  Much like when a catcher with a good arm shuts down the running game, a state trooper can do the same in a high velocity performance vehicle.  The former All-Star was tagged with a ticket for reckless driving.  Originally sentenced to 10 days in jail, he pleaded guilty on Thursday, January 29th and was sentenced to five days. It seems like the evidence was stacked against him (via the Washington Post)

"Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Ryan Bredemeier told the court a Virginia State Police trooper paced Werth driving at least 105 mph on an on-ramp to I-495 from Route 193 in Fairfax County. The trooper followed the player for a half-mile, and Werth’s Porsche continued to pull away from the police cruiser."

His license will be suspended for 30 days as well.  As part of the deal, he will serve his time on weekends, thus enabling him to continue rehab on his surgically repaired shoulder as he hopes to be a significant contributor to a stacked Nationals 2015 squad.
