Oufielder Casper Wells signed a Minor League contract with the Detroit Tigers according to Mark Anderson of BaseballProspectus.com. The news was later confirmed by Chris Lott of MLive.com. The deal involves a Spring Traning invitation.

The 30-year-old outfielder was drafted by the Tigers in the 14th round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft. He signed on June 11 of the same year. After five long years in the Minors, he made his debut with the Tigers on May 15, 2015 at the age of 25.

During two years with Detroit, Wells played in 100 games and took 206 at-bats. He had eight home runs and 29 RBI over that period of time. He slashed .286/.341/.490 in his Tigers career.

Wells was traded to the Seattle Mariners in the trade in which the Tigers acquired Doug Fister. Wells, however, did not know he would be back someday.

Wells spent two years in the Seattle organization. He slashed .225/.304/.406 while adding 17 long balls and 51 RBI over 124 games and 387 at-bats in his Mariners career. It seemed like Wells's bat was finally coming around, but he never turned the corner.

The veteran spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics on Major-League levels. Eventually, he ended up with the Chicago Cubs in 2014.

The right-handed hitter batted .197/.290/.230 over 26 games with the Triple-A Cubs. He then finished the season in independent ball. His struggles have made him just organizational depth or possibly a fourth or fifth outfielder.
