The reigning World Champions took to the field for the first time since Game 7 of the 2014 World Series and gave up nine runs to the Oakland A’s at the Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona.

World Series MVP, Madison Bumgarner only pitched an inning and two thirds this afternoon. In the five outs that he recorded, however, Bumgarner gave up four earned runs off of five hits while striking out two. After logging more than 250+ innings last season, it is only right to see him not at his best and as spring moves forward, he will be pitching further into the games.

It did not take long for Oakland to get on the board as Marcus Seimen took an 0-2 pitch to beyond left center field wall scoring Craig Gentry, after he reached base off of a single. That wasn’t it for the home team in the bottom half of the inning as Ben Zobrist scored off of a sac fly from Billy Butler.

Adam Duvall, who was the designated hitter for the day, hit a homerun to cut the deficit to just two in the next half inning. However, that would as close as the Giants would get this afternoon. The two clubs scored a run apiece in the next inning as well bringing the score to 5-2, in favor of the A’s.

Then in the bottom of the eighth inning, after Ehrie Adrianza scored from third following, the Athletic offense exploded for three more runs; increasing their lead to 9-3. After Max Muncy got on force thanks to a force out at second, Jason Pridie hit a ball that just went over the right field wall. Billy Burns put his last name to use as be blazed around the bases to leg out a triple before Luke Carlin knocked him in on the very next pitch.

These same two ball clubs will meet tomorrow afternoon at the Giants’ Spring Training stadium, the Scottsdale Stadium.
