UPDATE: The Miami New Times spoke to @GhostFadeKillah (who does not want his name to be shown because he is involved in gambling and is worried about legal issues), who told the Tim Elfrink that he does not think Cosart has ever bet on baseball and does not believe the recent scramble should lead to any issues.

MLB chief communications officer Pat Courtney confirmed to Tim Elfrink of the Miami New Times that they are currently investigating gambling allegations involving Jarred Cosart, who joined the Miami Marlins this winter.

The claims started when @GhostFadeKillah, who makes advice on betting over Twitter, sent a direct message (DM) to the public. The picture of the DM was sent out around nine o'clock. It was between Cosart and a colleague.

This was a tweet Cosart sent to his followers before he deleted his accout:

Around two weeks ago, my Twitter account was accessed by someone else. They began to send incriminating DM's to a number of accounts (1/3)

— Jarred Cosart (@CosartJL)

However, the DM's have been going on since December, proving that Cosart's tweet was inaccurate.

A second exhange in the gambling world was released. Cosart asked advice on a college basketball game between Baylor and Virginia from about two weeks ago. @GhostFadeKillah released this DM as well, but he did not name the friend who sent it to him. However, @GhostFadeKillah has never seen evidence of Cosart betting on baseball. MLB allows players to bet on other sports, just not baseball.

"It wasn't that big a deal, because I don't think he was ever betting on baseball," he says, adding of the second set of messages that "it was always about college basketball, and he never said anything about baseball. (My friend) did say that he wasn't that good at betting."

@GhostFadeKillah says he doesn't regret posting the messages. "The only outcomes are that he tells the truth, that he wasn't betting on baseball, and it's all good," he says. "If it does come out in the end that he was betting on baseball, then I don't feel bad about it."

Cosart, 24, went 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA last season over 30 games. He pitched in 180.1 innings for both the Houston Astros and the Miami Marlins. Cosart held a 1.364 WHIP and gave up just 0.4 home runs per nine innings. He struck out 5.7 hitters per nine innings as well.
