The Chicago Cubs pounded out eight runs on six hits and two walks in the ninth inning to defeat the Texas Rangers 15-10 Tuesday afternoon. With all the big-bopping prospects the Cubs have fielded this spring, the outburst came from some much lesser-known players.

The rally started with an error that allowed Wes Darvill to reach and Mark Zagunis and Jonathan Mota to score. That play allowed the Cubs to tie the game at 9-9. Wilson Contreras followed with a two-run triple that put the Cubs ahead 11-9.

The Cubs scored four more times thanks to single RBI from Billy McKinney (single), Francisley Bueno (groundout), Zagunis (sacrifice fly), and Mota (single).

Texas got one back in the bottom of the ninth on a solo home run from Carlos Corporan (2). Texas later put two runners aboard but could not push across any more.

The Cubs made a smaller comeback earlier in the game. Down 7-1 entering the fifth, the Cubs' better-known young studs rallied for four runs. Matt Szczur (5) popped his fifth home run of the spring.

Jorge Soler added a two-run single, and Anthony Rizzo grounded home Dexter Fowler. Szczur earlier put the Cubs on the board with an RBI single in the second.

Texas opened up that early lead with seven consecutive runs, three in the second and four in the fourth. After the Cubs' first rally, Texas extended its lead to 9-5 thanks to Corporan's two-run double.

Darvill made the score 9-7 when he homered (1) in the top of the seventh to put the Cubs in position for their big ninth inning.

Bueno (W: 1-1, 4.66 ERA) pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief to earn the win. He allowed a run on two hits, including Corporan's home run, and struck out three. The Cubs' offense got Eric Jokisch off the hook after a terrible outing. Jokisch allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings. His spring ERA is 8.80.

Former Cub Kyuji Fujikawa (L: 0-1, 6.43) both blew the save (1) and took the loss. He got only one man out in the ninth and allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits. He walked one and struck out one in 1/3 of an inning. Derek Holland had a rough outing of his own: 5 1/3 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 6 H, 2 BB, 4 K. He has a spring ERA of 4.32, very respectable for Spring Training.

On Wednesday, the Cubs host the Milwaukee Brewers at 4:05 p.m. EDT while Texas visits the Colorado Rockies at 4:10.
