Madison Bumgarner came out strong, looking as though it was a week after the World Series and he was in his prime. Bumgarner tossed 7 and a third innings not allowing a run to start off a series against the Padres with a win on the books. The win also brings the Giants to a .500 record (13-13). Bumgarner had a no-hitter through 6 innings but gave up a single to Upton in the 7th.

"I wasn't worried about losing a no-hitter," he said. "We established everything pretty early, command felt good. Everything's coming together."

Bumgarner looked terrific in the outing and it showed as his fastball was a consistent 93-94 mph and his location was very accurate.

Bumgarner changed some mechanics in the off-season and even just the rest has helped a lot for him. "It'd be nice if you didn't have to worry about this stuff, but this is a game of constant adjustments," he said. "The body changes all the time and you've got to stay on top of it."

The runs for the Giants came in the third inning, when Angel Pagan hit an RBI single and then later on Justin Maxwell walked with the bases loaded. It was a quiet night other than that, and runners were left on early in the game prior to that but a win is a win and the Giants should be satisfied with it.

Yours truly was out at the ballpark in the game, and this writer got a chance to see Hunter Pence moving around and taking swings and some fielding. Pence looked good, obviously they're taking things slow but multiple Bay Area insiders have mentioned that Pence will likely be down to the minors in the next week or so then try and come back with the team at the end of May. It will be really good for the Giants but if Pence comes back healthy, it makes the outfield a bit crowded. The outfield, including Pence, has 5 quality guys capable of playing every day. 1 of them may be dealt at the deadline. A third baseman would be nice for the Giants, they've struggled all season with having a consistent threat offensively and defensively at 3rd.

"We got away with some mistakes because of the job he did," manager Bruce Bochy said.

Pagan continued to hit well, he batted 2-4 on the game also including a double. Belt hit 2-4 as well, but had some bizarre base-running late in the game and was thrown out attempting to stretch a single into a double.

Ryan Vogelsong (0-2, 9.31 ERA) will face Andrew Cashner (1-4, 2.61 ERA) Tuesday night. Vogelsong will try to get his first win of the year as he replaces Peavy in the rotation.
