The Chicago White Sox took on the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of 3 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago used a four-run third inning to help defeat Detroit, 5-2.

The Tigers got things started as Ian Kinsler singled to left and scored Anthony Gose, who used his speed to get to third on a stolen base plus an error. But, Jose Abreu singled for the White Sox and knocked in Adam Eaton. That made it 1-1 after the first inning of baseball.

Alex Avila launched a home run to left, which seemed like it would be a momentum swing in the second inning, but the White Sox came charging back once again.

The White Sox had the bases loaded with Adam LaRoche at the plate. He drew a walk, which automatically scored Micah Johnson to make it 2-2 in the third.

Former Tiger Avasail Garcia grounded into a fielders choice to score Melky Cabrera. That play made it a one run lead for Chicago.

Still in the third inning, Conor Gillaspie ripped a triple to deep right center field. That scored Abreu and Garcia to make it 5-2.

The White Sox brought in David Robertson for the save and he got the job done. It was the fourth save of the season for the reliever that was acquired in the offseason.

Jeff Samardzija (2-2) picked up the win as he went seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out seven batters.

Shane Greene (3-2) had a rough outing for the Tigers as he only went 2 2/3 innings allowing five runs on five hits. He struggled with command as he walked four batters and struck out only one.
