After the firing of manager Mike Redmond and bench coach Rob Leary following the 6-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, the Miami Marlins began their search to find a new leader in the clubhouse.

Many were surprised to hear the rumblings late Sunday night that Marlin's GM Dan Jennings could be named the next manager of the club. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro confirmed early Monday morning that Jennings will be making the move from front office to dugout.

Redmond, who replaced Ozzie Guillen after the 2012 season, had a contract with the Marlins that was signed through 2017 and he finished with a sub .500 record with Miami, 155-207.

The Marlins are currently sitting at 16-22 and 6 games out of first place in the NL East. As Joe Frisaro notes on MLB.com, this 16-22 record is the exact same start the Marlins had in 2003 when they fired Jeff Torborg in May as manager. Jack McKeon, the man who replaced Torborg, went on to take the then Florida Marlins to the World Series, winning it in six games.

Should be very interesting to see how Jennings is able to manage the team. A lot of people believed before the season started that this Marlins club had the chance to make a run at the playoffs and with 124 game still remaining, they could just do that.

Other moves that will take place following Jennings' hiring are Miami's advanced scout Mike Goff will become the new bench coach, along with assistant GM Mike Berger making the move into the general manager position.
