Earlier in May, Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez felt a pinch in his already nicked-up left knee. Prior to the pinch, he rested four straight days and the pain continued.

Lynn Henning of the Detroit News reports that the Venezuelan might be out until after the All-Star break with soreness in his left knee, which was surgically repaired this offseason.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reported that Martinez started his rehab work on Friday. While that is a good sign, Martinez will need to go about the activities very cautiously. The rehabilitation is currently taking place in Orlando, Florida.

After posting a .335/.409/.565 slash line in 2014, the 36-year-old has slumped this season. Martinez, who received a four-year, $68 million contract in the offseason, is slashing just .216/.309/.270 with one home run and 15 RBI in 111 at-bats. The 13-year veteran blasted 32 home runs and 103 RBI during the 2014 season. Martinez is due to become a free agent in 2019.
