The Cardinals arrive on fire

The St. Louis Cardinals were a team under .500 until Aug. 9 before winning the next six games. As of Aug. 10, the Cardinals are 35-16. Nobody believed in them and suddenly they began to play very well baseball, to win 17 consecutive games, being the most passionate team in this 2021 postseason.

Arenado finished with 34 home runs and 105 RBIs. Now, the Southern California native will return home for his first postseason appearance since 2018.

Historic hegemony of the Cardinals vs the Dodgers

They have met 5 times in the MLB Playoffs, of which the Cardinals won 4: 1985 NLCS, 2004 NLDS, 2013 NLCS, 2014 NLDS. Whereas the Dodgers only eliminated the Cardinals in the 2009 NLDS.

Wainwright vs Dodgers

For their part, the St. Louis Cardinals will turn to 40-year-old right-hand pitcher Adam Wainwright, who comes in with a 17-7 record with a 3.05 ERA. He was 6-0 with a 2.44 ERA in his last eight starts this season, but now faces a Dodgers offense that averaged nine runs in his last five games. It will be an interesting duel and we will see if he can come out well with all his experience.

Wainwright, a 16-year MLB veteran, is 7-5 with a 2.66 ERA in 17 regular-season appearances, 14 of them as a starter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has made three postseason starts in his career against Los Angeles, going 0-1 with a 4.12 ERA. Wainwright's most recent playoff appearance against the Dodgers was in the 2014 National League Division Series, when he allowed six runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Looking at his MLB numbers, Scherzer is 4-6 with a 2.76 ERA in 13 regular-season starts against the Cardinals. Facing St. Louis in Game 2 of the 2019 National League Championship Series while pitching for Washington, he struck out 11 and allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings.

Dodgers, thedefending champion

Only once in four playoff rounds last season did the defending champion Dodgers see an elimination game, when they earned a 4-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. . That night Max Muncy hit a single and a run, but unfortunately he is not expected to play tonight due to a left elbow injury.

Corey Seager, AJ Pollock and Trea Turner will have to carry the weight of the Los Angeles Dodgers offense today, without Muncy and his 36 home runs and 94 RBIs, the best of the team will have to carry the game of today.

All or nothing

Tonight at Dodger Stadium the Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals play all or nothing in the 2021 MLB season.

The NL wild card representatives square off in a winner-take-all game Wednesday in Los Angeles, with the 106-win Dodgers facing the Cardinals, who produced a best-of-ever 17-game winning streak. of the franchise, last month.

It's a matchup worthy of a seven-game series, but this time they'll only meet in one game. Awaiting the winner are the San Francisco Giants, who have won 107 victories this season.

Adam Wainwright RHP #50

The St. Louis Cardinals will rely on a seasoned pitcher for this one-game showdown against the defending champs. Forty-year-old veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright has been the ace for the Cardinals all season and is one of the main reasons they secured a spot in the NL wild-card game. Even when this team was playing badly early in the season, before his long streak, Wainwright took the mound and pitched some of the best games of his career. He finished the season 17-7 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He has worked seven or more innings 16 times and has allowed two or fewer earned runs 20 times. There is no other arm the Cardinals can rely on right now.

Los Angeles and St. Louis split four games at Busch Stadium September 6-9. In that series, Adam Wainwright was involved in a game where he pitched in the ninth inning for the victory. Since that series, the Cardinals have raced to win 17 consecutive games and arrive tonight highly motivated with a very high level of play.

Max Scherzer RHP #31

The Los Angeles Dodgers will send potential Cy Young winner Max Scherzer to the mound tonight. Max comes into this game with a brilliant 2.46 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 236/36 K / BB ratio in 30 starts this season.

He had a poor performance and was defeated last weekend against the San Diego Padres. He allowed six runs, five of them earned, on 11 hits and no walks, with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. He went without a decision against them last Wednesday.

Los Angeles and St. Louis split four games at Busch Stadium from Sept. 6-9. Scherzer struck out 13 in eight innings in the series opener at Busch Stadium.

This is how the Cardinals arrive at the Wild Card game

The St. Louis Cardinals finished the regular season at a high level and a spectacular streak in their quest for a wild card, winning 17 of their last 20 games to close the season with a 90-72 record.

Offensively, they ranked 15th with 198 home runs and 19th in on-base percentage. They have been average for most of the year, except for the last two months. But timely hitting and a host of veterans have propelled them to the postseason.

Tonight they will face Max Scherzer and the defending champs in a game of life and death, recalling that the Cardinals generally do well in the postseason against the Dodgers.

This is how the Dodgers arrive at the Wild Card game

The Los Angeles Dodgers were fighting the entire regular season with the San Francisco Giants for the NL West title. In the end, they did not reach them this weekend and they left their streak in 8 consecutive titles, while the surprising Giants secured the division and sent the Dodgers with all and their 106 victories to the wild card game.

The Dodgers won four of seven games against the St. Louis Cardinals during the regular season, including two of three in Los Angeles from May 31 to June 2. Los Angeles and St. Louis split four games at Busch Stadium from Sept. 6-9. In that series Max Scherzer struck out 13 in eight innings in the series opener at Busch Stadium, and Adam Wainwright pitched into the ninth inning in a win two days later. Since that series, the Cardinals have gone wild by winning 17 straight games to reach the wild card game.
