The Oakland Athletics took the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon defeating the Colorado Rockies 4-1.

Athletics starting pitcher Jesse Hahn (6-6) was stellar against the sputtering Rockies offense. Hahn threw six innings surrendering one run on four hits and six punch outs. Hahn baffled the Rockies sluggers the entire afternoon and turned his masterpiece over to the bullpen to finish.

A’s designated hitter Billy Butler and left fielder Ben Zobrist led the way offensively. Both sluggers collected two hits and an RBI apiece to catapult the A’s to an early 2-1 lead. Both would finish the day 2-for-3 at the dish.

Rockies starting pitcher Chad Bettis (4-3) was not as sharp in the matinee. Bettis lasted 5.2 innings surrendering three runs off seven hits. He walked four and recorded four strike outs and took the loss on Wednesday.

Rockies Gold-Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado flashed the leather nicely in the bottom of the second inning robbing shortstop Marcus Semien of a base hit. Arenado would see his 17-game hitting streak finally come to an end on Wednesday. He went 0-for-4 at the dish ending the MLB’s longest active hitting streak. Troy Tulowitzki, who did not play on Wednesday afternoon, takes over the top spot looking to extend his 14-game hitting streak.

The Oakland Athletics will remain at home for an upcoming four-game series against the Seattle Mariners. Mariners will send Roenis Elias (4-5) to the mound against the Athletics Scott Kazmir (4-5). First pitch is slated for 10:05 p.m. EST on Thursday July 2nd. The game can be seen on ROOT Sports and CSNCA.

The Colorado Rockies will travel to the desert to face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks for a four-game set. The Rockies will send Chad Rusin (3-2) to the bump to counter Arizona starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson (5-5). First pitch is slated for 9:40 p.m. EST on Thursday July 2nd. The game can be seen on ROOT Sports and Fox Sports Arizona.
