New York Yankees pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has become the formula to beat the Los Angeles Angels and beat that dangerous Angels lineup. This is also his second victory over the Angels in less than a month, the last one being at Yankee Stadium. After a three-game skid, the Yankees needed this win to go up in the AL East standings and to avoid being swept.

Eovaldi pitched five scoreless innings and only allowed five hits to that dangerous Angels lineup. He was doing great through five innings as he induced 11 ground ball outs, two fly outs and three strikeouts. The only time that he really ran into trouble was in the sixth inning when he walked Mike Trout and Albert Pujols to load up the bases with one man out. That's when Joe Girardi came out of the dugout and put in the left-hander Chasen Shreve to relieve Eovaldi. Shreve got out of the jam by getting Erick Aybar to fly out to shortstop and then David Freese to ground out third to end the sixth inning.

The only offense that the Yankees needed was RBI singles by Chase Headley in the third and an insurance run by Didi Gregorius in the eighth inning. The big hit of the night came from Garrett Jones who hit a solo shot in the sixth inning. Trout also had a homer in the bottom of the eighth, but the Yankees bullpen shut it down after that. Dellin Betances pitched 1.1 innings to close out the game and receive his seventh save of the year.

The Yankees didn't need a lot of runs to win this game, but are looking forward to their homestand after losing seven out of their last 10. After a much needed day off tomorrow, the Yankees will play the Tampa Bay Rays starting on Friday with Masahiro Tanaka on the mound.
