The New York Mets, who mashed out 15 hits in an 8-0 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, find their offense finally clicking after looking hard to find answers to their struggles.

The Mets, who are just 4.5 games out of first place in the National League East, look for consistency after the injury losses to captain David Wright and catcher Travis d'Arnaud, who leave them depleted. Wright's status remains unclear when he will return (maybe never) and d'Arnaud remains out with a hyper extended elbow problem that developed when he tried to make a play at the plate.

The Mets (42-41) know they need to make a move, but the trade market for players is still early to tell what teams are in sell mode. New York GM Sandy Alderson has said in a past report that he is “prepared to overpay” for the right piece to boost the club’s sagging offense. Joel Sherman of the New York Post connected those two stories, reporting that the Mets are specifically willing to offer a premium return for Oakland A's utility man Ben Zobrist.

The surging A's (38-47) have been playing better of late and trade talk has remained silent because of it. If they go in selling mode, which could be the case being 10.5 games of the AL West, Zobrist could be on the move because simply he is a free agent going into 2016.

Zobrist is batting .267 with five home runs and 31 RBI, and could be a valuable piece to the Mets right now. He potentially offers a solution at second, third and the corner outfield spots, all while delivering the type of on-base threat that Alderson loves in his players. He has struck out only 18 times in 180 at-bats and has a .354 on-base-percentage.  The problem is the A's have not made him available as of right now. Alderson is very close with A's GM Billy Beane as they worked together in Oakland in the past and could make good business partners in the future because of it.

The Mets now have an overabundance of starting pitching with the development of Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz added to the mix. The Mets remain with a six-man rotation because of it.  They also believe it will help them going into next season without overtaxing the rest of the young staff and Matt Harvey, who is coming back from Tommy John Surgery.

The Mets are believed to be shopping veteran pitchers Bartolo Colon and Jon Niese. Niese has been rumored to have interest from the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, who look to add a back of the end rotation guy. The Cubs have what the Mets need, plenty of middle infielders. The Cubs have infielders Starlin Castro, Addison Russell, and Javier Baez, with Castro having the highest pay scale. The Dodgers have OF/IF Alex Guerrero, who has seen limited playing time and could be shipped off because of the emergence of former Met infielder Justin Turner.

Zobrist looks to be the best fit out of all the options out there because of his versatility on the field. Now it's just of matter of what the Mets have to part with to get it done.
