St Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left tonight's game with a strained right quad, and will be re-evaluated tomorrow, according to a tweet sent from the teams official Twitter account.

INJURY REPORT: Matt Holliday left today's game with a strained right quad. Will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

This is the same injury that Holliday just recovered from after spending six weeks on the disabled list. Stephen Piscotty took his place in left field, and could be a long term fit if Holliday makes another trip to the disabled list.

Attempting to beat out a double-play ball in the bottom of the first, Holliday appeared to start limping on his left leg two-thirds of the way to first. Holliday actually got to first before the relay  throw, but he missed the base and limped right into the dugout

This year, Holliday is slashing .291/.411/.422 with four home runs and 30 runs-batted-in. He was also selected to his eighth All-Star game this season.

This has the potential to sideline Holliday for the rest of the season, which would force the Cardinals to move quickly to acquire a everyday first baseman or corner outfielder. The Cardinals have been rumored to be interested in Miluawkee Brewers first baseman Adam Lind, but any potential deal would have to be completed by the trade deadline on Friday afternoon. For the short term, the Cardinals can use Stephen Piscotty in left field, while Mark Reynolds plays first base untill an everyday first baseman can be acquired by the Cardinals. On the season, Piscotty is batting .333/.381/.389 in just seven games in the major leagues. He has played four games in left field, only committing one error.

The team will announce more details in the morning, presumably after Holliday undergoes an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.
