Despite a ninth-inning Milwaukee Brewers rally, the Chicago Cubs (57-47) held on to win Game 4 by a score of 4-3 Sunday afternoon to complete a four-game sweep of their second-biggest rival, the Brewers (44-62). The Cubs took advantage of a Brewers lineup that sent its biggest bats elsewhere last week in winning four straight at Miller Park.

On Sunday, Addison Russell provided what officially became the game-winning run with a solo blast (7) off the hitting background behind the center-field fence (video) in the top of the second. Russell has struggled of late, but he is starting to show signs of breaking out of a prolonged slump with his five-hit, two-RBI performance in the four-game series.

Starting pitcher Clayton Richard added the first of two big insurance runs with an RBI double in the fourth (video) that brought in Jorge Soler. Richard, just returning from Triple-A, missed a double earlier in the at-bat when his blooper to right landed just foul. He then lined a 1-2 fastball to left for his first hit and RBI of the year.

The Cubs got a much-needed extra run in the fifth when Kris Bryant singled home Kyle Schwarber to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead.

Bryant was safe at second on the play, and replay review confirmed the call. On the play, though, Bryant took a hard tag from Brewers shortstop Jean Segura on the top of the head.

They replay review gave Bryant a chance to regain his composure, but he left the game with dizziness. MLB.com's Carrie Muskat quoted Cubs manager Joe Maddon discussing the injury after the game. Said Maddon,

"He got banged a little bit on the slide, popped him in the head a little bit. He's a little bit dizzy at the moment. We believe he's fine. I think he's going to be fine actually."

The Cubs are awaiting the results of Monday morning's evaluation.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, scored two in the ninth to make it a one-run game. Ryan Braun and Adam Lind led off with singles, and Bruan advanced to third. Elian Herrera grounded out but brought in Bruan with a then-seemingly harmless run that the Cubs' defense allowed to score in exchange for the out at first.

A little, later, with two outs, Shane Peterson grounded to short for what looked like a game-ender. Starlin Castro, though, booted the ball to extend the inning. Hernan Perez brought home Herrera with a single to pull the Brewers to within a run. However, Logan Schafer's hard line drive found Dexter Fowler's glove to end the threat.

The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first on Anthony Rizzo's RBI force out. Milwaukee got on the board in the bottom of the second on Perez's RBI ground ball.

Richard (W: 2-0, 4.19) pitched six solid innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. He walked no one and fanned three. James Russell and Pedro Strop each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Hector Rondon (S: 16) got into and out of that jam in the ninth to save it.

Kyle Lohse (L: 5-13, 6.31) lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits while walking one, striking out three, and serving up Russell's home run.

On Monday, the Cubs begin a crucial seven-game stretch that could determine their wild-card possibility. The Cubs visit the Pittsburgh Pirates for three games beginning Monday and then return home to host the San Francisco Giants for four games beginning Thursday. The Cubs trail Pittsburgh by four games for the top N.L. Wild Card spot as play begins Monday, and they are tied with San Francisco for the second spot.

Meanwhile, the Brewers welcome the San Diego Padres to town for a four-game set beginning Monday night.
