Of the last four MLB teams to post 100 win seasons, the St. Louis Cardinals hold two of them. They won 105 in 2004 and 100 in 2005. In those two seasons, their combined record was an outstanding 205-119. In 2004, the Cardinals reached the World Series but lost to the Boston Red Sox. In 2005, the Cardinals reached the NLCS but fell to the Houston Astros. The other two teams to reach the 100 win mark were the Los Angeles Angels in 2008, who lost to the Red Sox in the ALDS, and the New York Yankees in 2009 who went on to win the World Series.

The 2015 Cardinals currently sit at 81-45. There are 36 games left in the regular season and the Cards would have to win at least 19 of the remaining 36 games to win 100 games. That's just a little more than half of the remaining games that they would need to win to reach the century mark. Of the remaining 36 games left on the Cardinals schedule, 18 of those games are against teams under .500.

Other than a series against the San Francisco Giants and a couple of series against the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cardinals schedule for the last 36 games isn't all that difficult. Despite the countless injuries the St. Louis have endured, they are in prime position to become the first MLB team since 2009 to win at least 100 games.

At the beginning of the season, things did not look good for the Redbirds. Ace right-hander Adam Wainwright went down with an Achilles injury. Cleanup hitter Matt Adams went down with a quad injury that has kept him out since late-May. Matt Holliday had a great start to the season but two separate stints on the DL with a quad injury has derailed his season. As of late, rookie sensation Randal Grichuk has gone onto the DL with an elbow injury. Outfielder Jon Jay has been injured since early-May with a wrist injury, and key relievers Jordan Walden (biceps) and Matt Belisle (elbow) are on the 60-day DL with no immediate return.

Key players such as Yadier Molina and Jason Heyward struggled with the bats early on in the season. With all the struggles this team has had, it's amazing that they continue to win games. They have sat atop the MLB standings for basically the entire season, getting things done with players such as Stephen Piscotty, 32-year-old Mark Reynolds, Tommy Pham, and plenty of other guys that aren't household names outside of St. Louis.

The pitching has been outstanding, the best in the league despite youth and a rash of injuries. The Cardinals have posted a 2.65 team ERA, which is the best in the MLB. They are 0.48 better than the second best, their counterparts in the NL Central the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Michael Wacha is one of the more notable pitchers, as he has put together an incredible year thus far. After being injured in 2014, and then struggling in the postseason, he has truly had a bounce back year. The 24-year-old right-hander holds a record of 15-4 this season, with a 2.80 ERA and a .789 win percentage, which is best on the team out of all of the starting pitchers. His win percentage is also fourth best in the entire MLB. All of the Cardinals current starting pitchers (Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez, Lance Lynn, John Lackey and Jaime Garcia) have winning records. Martinez is 12-6, Lynn is 10-8, Lackey is 11-8, and Garcia is 6-4. Ace Adam Wainwright was 2-1 before suffering what could be a season-ending injury. The pitching has largely been credited for the success this season. Of the 126 games played, 87 of them have been credited as quality starts by the Cardinal starting rotation.

St. Louis keeps on finding ways to win, no matter who is injured and who is put out on the field. They should get key players back before or during the postseason, such as power hitter Matt Adams and Adam Wainwright, who has stated that he wants to play again in the 2015 season but there is no confirmation on if that will happen or not. It was reported that Waino told manager Mike Matheny that his arm feels as good as ever, and GM John Mozeliak said if Wainwright were to return it would be in a reliever role but Wainwright has stated that he plans to return as a starter. Either way,  Wainwright's return would elevate this incredible pitching staff to another level and set the Cards up for a big playoff run. The Cardinals are easily one of the favorites to make and win the World Series this fall.
