The Los Angeles Angels head to O.co Coliseum for a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics on Monday night.

The Angels are coming off of a terrible series against the Cleveland Indians. The bullpen blew both Friday and Saturday's games, two fly balls were lost in the sun, and they gave up a grand slam in both Saturday and Sunday's games.

Mike Trout had been in a hitting slump but bounced back on Sunday with a 4-for-4 game. Trout was only a home run away from hitting his second career cycle. He ended up hitting a single to right field instead of getting the homer. When asked if he tried going deep he said, "When I do that, I get my foot down late and I get jammed. That's what happened." Trout is now batting .298/.397/.581 with 33 home runs and 74 RBIs.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia had this to say after Sunday's loss:

"No one takes these last 36 games in stride, for sure. These guys want to achieve, they want to play well; they feel it when we're not playing well. Even though this is a tough stretch, we always talk about, 'Hey, the sun is coming up, and let's go out there and try to create some momentum.'"

Pitching for the Angels is left-hander Hector Santiago (7-8, 3.13 ERA). He hasn't recorded a win since July 20th against the Boston Red Sox. Santiago has a 5.13 ERA in the 26.1 innings pitched for the month of August, allowing 15 earned runs and six homers. He will hope to get back to the success he had during the first half of the season.

Coming into tonight's game, the Angels have lost 16 of their last 19 road games. They are now 6.5 games behind the first place Houston Astros in the AL West and 3.5 games behind the Texas Rangers for the Wild Card spot.

The Angels have won five of their past seven games against the A's. The last time the two clubs faced each other was on June 21st.

Felix Doubront (1-1, 3.70 ERA) will get the start for the A's and is looking for his first win with the team. Doubront was purchased from the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31st and has a 2.41 ERA since joining the A's rotation. He's given up five earned runs and struck out 17 batters in 18.2 innings.

The A's are coming off of a series win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. On Sunday they were able to get the win in the 11th inning when Marcus Semien hit a two-run base hit off of the D-back's closer Brad Ziegler.

"That just shows the fight in our team," A's catcher Stephen Vogt said. "We've showed signs of this all year, and I think it was just nice for us to see it in a game that could've swayed the other way.."

Tonight's game will be the beginning of a long stretch of inter-division games for both teams. The Angels last 32 games of the season will feature 25 games against the AL West. The A's will have 24 matchups against the AL West in their last 31 games.

First pitch is set for 10:05 PM EST.
