After clinching a playoff spot in game one of the series against the Los Angeles Angels, the Texas Rangers were looking to wrap up the AL West division. The Angels on the other hand, were just trying to stay in the race as they are sitting one game out of a playoff spot in the Wild Card.

This ball game was a typical October, playoff type atmosphere where runs were at a premium and the pitching was on point.

Martin Perez got the start for the Rangers and turned in a great outing, although it started off a little rocky. Right away in the first inning, C.J. Cron got the Angels on the board as he shot an RBI single up the middle to score Erick Aybar and give them a 1-0 lead early on.

The rest of Perez's outing went well as he pitched seven innings giving up just one run on four hits while striking out four and walking one.

As for the Angels, Jered Weaver got the start and matched Perez. Weaver lasted six innings giving up just one run on two hits while striking out two and walking three.

The only blemish to his line was a solo shot hit by Shin-Soo Choo in the fourth inning to knot this game up at one a piece.

There wasn't a whole lot of offense in this one as there were just nine total hits combined.

In the top of the ninth inning, Texas manager Jeff Bannister brought in his usually reliable closer Shawn Tolleson in a tie game, but Friday was a different story.

Mike Trout led off the inning and he added to his MVP resume with a leadoff triple to get the Angels going. He was followed by Albert Pujols who came up with the most clutch hit of the night with an RBI single to center to give the Angels a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Joe Smith came on for the save and sent the Rangers down 1-2-3 to preserve the win and keep the Angels in contention for a playoff spot.

With the win by Los Angeles, they prevented the Rangers from clinching the division with a win, but Texas could still clinch if the Houston Astros lose their matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

As for the Wild Card race, the Astros, with a win, will stay atop the second Wild Card standings. The Angels will be one game out and the Minnesota Twins, after losing to the Kansas City Royals, will have some work to do and need some help as they sit two games out of contention.

Game three of the four game series will continue Saturday afternoon in Texas as Hector Santiago will take the hill for the Angels and will be opposed by Colby Lewis for the Rangers.
