During workouts at Citi Field, the New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told the media that Juan Uribe will not play in the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to a chest injury.

What we have decided is to leave him here in New York,” Alderson said. “He will continue to work with therapists here. We certainly have not ruled him out for any future series if we are involved, but I say right now that he is out.”

The Mets are not in a huge need for an infielder, so they will likely add Kirk Nieuwenhuis to the roster. While Uribe is out for the NLDS, he is not ruled out for future rounds, as Alderson noted. For that to even become a topic, the Mets will need to defeat the Dodgers during their first series of the playoffs.

The injury occurred as Uribe dove for a ground ball against the New York Yankees on September 20. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN, the MRI showed a "deep bruise," but nothing crazy.

After the injury, Uribe made an appearance five days later as a pinch hitter against the Atlanta Braves. He got another shot at starting on the 25th of September, but was removed as he re-aggravated his chest.

Nieuwenhuis will probably replace Uribe. Nieuwenhuis makes for another left-handed outfield bat with some power. The 28-year-old has hit a home run in every 0.4 at-bats this season, which is not bad considering he only played in 64 games all season. Nieuwenhuis could come in as a defensive replacement for a veteran like Michael Cuddyer

On July 25, the Mets acquired Uribe, along with Kelly Johnson, from the Braves. The Braves gave up right-handers John Gant and Rob Whalen. Johnson is on the roster for the NLDS against the Dodgers.

Uribe ended up with the Braves after the Dodgers traded him on May 27 because the third baseman fell behind Justin Turner and Alex Guerrero on the depth chart. The Braves gave up Alberto Callaspo, Eric Stults, Ian Thomas and Juan Jaime for Uribe and Chris Withrow

Over 119 games with three teams during the 2015 regular season, Uribe slashed .253/.320/.417 with 14 homers and 43 RBIs. With the Mets, he hit .219 with six homers and 20 RBIs over 44 games, two less than with the Braves, but 15 more than with the Dodgers.

The veteran has appeared in 44 total postseason games with the Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants and Dodgers. Uribe has a .204 average with five homers and 24 RBIs in his postseason career.
