It was announced on Thursday, October 8th, that legendary Los Angeles Dodgers and Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully would undergo emergency surgery, in which was recommended by doctors.

Scully, who is one of the last, if not the last, of the one man announce teams in baseball, would miss the last three home games of the regular season against the San Diego Padres, due to what the Dodgers' staff thought was a cold. He now will miss not just the upcoming National League Divisional Series against the New York Mets, but the entire MLB postseason.

One of the biggest icons in Dodger history, has broadcasted for the Dodgers for 66 consecutive years, dating back to the days of the Brooklyn Dodgers Scully had the pleasure of calling games with players such as Roy Campanella, Fernando Valenzuela, Jackie Robinson, and most recently, Clayton Kershaw. However, Scully in 1976 would be voted by the Dodger fans as the most memorable figure of all them.

"I mean, how much longer can you go on fooling people? So yeah, I would be saying, 'Dear God, if you give me next year, I will hang it up'"~Vin Scully

It was announced on August 29th, at a Dodger press conference, Vin Scully would return for his 67th season as the broadcaster for the Dodgers in 2016. Hated by few, loved by many, respected by all, Vin Scully is easily the greatest announcer in the history of sports.

It was reported by the Dodger's twitter that Scully was resting comfortably in the hospital this morning after the surgery, but sadly would end up missing this historic postseason, as it's the first time the Dodgers have ever won a division championship in three straight seasons. We here at VAVEL would like to wish Vin Scully a speedy recovery.
