The Miami Marlins and Dee Gordon have agreed on a five-year, $50 million contract extension, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The $14 million vesting option for a sixth-year has a $1 million buyout, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, so the max value of his contract is for $63 million over six years. The sixth-year vests with 600 plate appearances in fifth-year or 1,200 in the fourth and fifth season, reports Heyman

Back in December 2015, Heyman reported that the Marlins made an offer of five years to Gordon to try and extend his contract, but at that point it was mentioned that the 27-year-old wanted seven years on the extension. Nevertheless, the two parties have finally agreed to a big time deal.

Gordon, who is the son of former major league pitcher Tom Gordon, won the 2015 Batting Title with a .333/.359/.418 slash line that included four home runs, 46 RBI, 58 steals and 88 runs scored across 653 plate appearances. The left-handed hitter and right-handed thrower won his first Gold Glove in 2015 with Miami.

The fourth round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2008 MLB Draft has been playing for five seasons. He has played four in Los Angeles and one in Miami. He earned All-Star honors with the Dodgers in 2014 and with the Marlins in 2015. Gordon has a career .293/.328/.369 slash line with eight home runs and 144 RBI and 188 stolen bases across 474 games.

In 2014 and 2015, Gordon has picked up 122 stolen bases, six homers and 80 RBI across 1,124 at-bats. The second baseman uses his speed to his advantage on both sides of the ball. The 27-year-old should turn out to be just fine in the long haul if he can avoid injuries in Miami.
