BRISBANE, Queensland -- The Brisbane Bandits got a run in the first inning at Holloway Field and never looked back. All in all, Brisbane defeated the Adelaide Bite to win Game 1 of the Australian Baseball League Championship Series. Leading the 7-4 win for the Bandits was center fielder TJ Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI and a walk.

"Having that week off, there was a lot of buildup to [the game]," Bennett, a 23-year-old Arizona native said. "We were talking about it a lot in practice and we were all just excited. We knew playing in front of these fans it was going to be a place where we're comfortable. We win a lot here and we were excited."

Jason Jarvis (W, 1-0) was sent to the mound and went 5.0 innings deep before turning the ball over to his bullpen. Jarvis gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk, but he picked up seven strikeouts against the Bite.

Taylor Stanton, Eric Green, Matt Timms and Ryan Searle (S, 1) threw 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball to finish out the win in the ABL Championship Series.

While Bennett led the team at the dish, others contributed. Donald Lutz, the designated hitter, went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a triple and an RBI. Logan Wade went 2-for-4 and scored as many times as he got on-base because Bennett drove him across home plate.

It’s huge for us to get the first win,’’ Bennett said.

Knowing the (pitchers we have in our) bullpen makes it comfortable for us as hitters."

Josh Tols (L, 0-1) could not find himself on Friday, giving up five runs on three hits and three walks across 2.2 innings of work. Tols showed spurts of life, but struggled with his command and location. Matthew Williams relieved Tols and gave up one run in 3.1 innings. Hei Chun Lee and Dallas Gallant combined for 2.0 innings to finish the game. Lee allowed a run, but it was not an earned run.

The Bite got a surge from Angus Roeger, who hit a home run on a fly ball to right field to score Stefan Welch and Tom Brice. The three run shot put Adelaide down by one run against Brisbane, but the Bandits went on to score two more runs to win the game.

Bennett drove in the lone run for Brisbane in the bottom of the sixth inning, while Maxx Tissenbaum reached first base on a throwing error in the eight inning, which allowed Logan Wade to score for the Bandits. The run scored on an error gave Brisbane a 7-4 lead, which eventually turned into the final score.

"Obviously [tonight had] a different energy because there's a different environment, you've got a bigger crowd and all that, but I could tell in the dugout we're the same group of guys," Bandits manager David Nilsson said. "We've been successful, so everyone's trying not to do anything different - just be as loose as they've been all year and have as much fun as they've had. It was a pretty good game all around."

Adelaide and Brisbane will be back at in on Saturday (3:00 PM ET) on MLB Network for Game 2 of the ABL Championship Series at Holloway Field.
